When you think of a Sheraton Hotel, chances are you have some childhood memories of staying in the historic chain. The very first Sheraton Hotel was opened in Massachusetts in 1937. Not content to remain a national chain, the Sheraton Hotel empire went international in the 1940’s when the company acquired hotels in Canada. It didn’t take long for Sheraton Hotels to expand their holdings into the vast reaches of the world, including Latin America and even China.
Sheraton Hotels were known for service. Quality was important to the Sheraton shareholders and it was reflected in every aspect of service staff members gave to guests. This quality came at a price, and guests were prepared to pay handsomely for the privilege of staying in a Sheraton Hotel. Seeing a need for quality hotels at affordable prices, the company opened several midlevel hotels in the 1980’s. These new, more affordable hotels pushed the value of the company sky high, making great hotel experiences available to the masses.
Ten years ago, the company was acquired by Starwood Hotels and Resorts. In joining the Starwood family, Sheraton now keeps company with such hotel chains as St. Regis® Hotels & Resorts, The Luxury Collection®, Le Méridien®, W Hotels®, and Westin Hotels & Resorts®.
From Hotel To Resort
While Sheraton Hotels have always been known as fine places to stay the night, they have recently acquired resort status.
